IIPT Global Awards for Empowering Women in Tourism for Jane Madden for her achievements

Jane Madden, managing partner, global sustainability and social impact, at FINN Partners, was honored by the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) for her efforts in sustainability and promoting corporate social responsibility. Now in its fourth year, the annual awards ceremony was hosted at the international trade show ITB in Berlin.

Madden was one of five women honored as part of the “Celebrating Her” awards which were established by the not-for-profit International– India(IIPTI) to acknowledge exceptional women in the fields of travel, tourism and hospitality. The additional award recipients were Her Excellency Rania al Mashat, Minister of Tourism for Egypt; Her Excellency Elena Kountoura, Minister of Tourism for GreeceHelen Marano, Founder and President of Marano Perspectives; and Mechtild Maurer, General Director, ECPAT Germany.

According to IIPT, the awards are “given to individuals with a clarity of vision and mission who understand and believe that tourism could become the first global peace industry and who have committed themselves to fostering the tourism business as a vehicle for peace.”

In accepting the honor, Madden noted that the awards ceremony was held on the eve of International Women’s Day and underscored “that gender equality is intrinsic to economic development and the organization’s global aims in fostering peace and bridging the gender gap.”

She added, “In today’s business and political climate, sustainability is no longer a ‘nice to do’ for corporations; it is a business imperative. I look forward to supporting IIPT’s commitment to sustainable   tourism.”

Key speakers at the awards included Dr. Taleb Rifai, former Secretary General of UNWTO; Her Excellency Eliza Reid, First Lady of Iceland; and The Honorable Marie-Christine Stephenson, Haiti’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Industries.

Madden joined FINN in 2018 as the head of its Sustainability and Social Impact practice and has advocated for women and girls throughout her career. She is a sought-after speaker on sustainability issues, particularly ESG disclosure, human rights and conflict minerals. She has toured Mongolia and Moldova as a guest speaker on sustainability for the U.S. State Department and has spoken at the Milken Global Conference, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Jonas Salk Centenary Symposium on Sustainability. She has been named PR Professional of the Year and CSR Professional of the Year by PRNews.  Madden worked at The World Bank for over a decade, served on the Board of Directors of Global Communities and has lived and worked in over 30 countries.
