Nominations Open For The IIPT Peace Through Tourism Awards – Africa

The African Resilience Summit, organised by the Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council in partnership with the Africa Travel Association, is taking place during the 42nd the World Tourism Conference  in Johannesburg, South Africa on July 24th, 2019. The Summit will highlight the importance of preparedness and planning for sustainability as well as addressing current challenges. Sessions will cover topics such as tourism in government, security, risk management and media perspectives whilst discussing the opportunities tourism provides as a platform for resiliency and an engine for economic growth and job creation.

Continuing its partnership with the Resilience Council, IIPT announces the Regional Peace Through Tourism Awards, Africa to be held as the culmination of the Summit at a glittering event in Johannesburg on 24th July.

Central to nations leading their people towards a safe, secure, sustainable, shared future is the willingness of leaders within nations to boldly stand up and step forward, especially in times of crisis.

The IIPT awards are a way of honoring the organizations and leaders who have stood forward in exceptional times of challenge and have made a real difference through their words and their actions. Nominations will be received by our group of prestigious international judges and the winners will be announced on the day.

There are 4 awards categories and two awards will be presented in each category: One to an individual or organization based in South Africa and one to an organization or individual based anywhere else in the African continent. The award categories are:

  • IIPT Resilient Tourism Community Award
  • IIPT Resilient Tourism Business Award
  • IIPT Resilience Through Cultural Diversity or Environmental Sensitivity Award
  • IIPT Change Maker in Tourism Award
