Central to nations leading their people towards a safe, secure, sustainable, shared future is the willingness of leaders within nations to boldly stand up and step forward, especially in times of crisis. The International Institute For Peace Through Tourism (IIPT) – a not for profit organisation dedicated to fostering and facilitating tourism initiatives which contribute to international understanding and cooperation (about-us) partners with Jacobs Media Group via its thought leadership forum, the Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council (RC) to present the IIPT Champions in Challenge Awards to such individuals or organisations.
These awards purposely presented within the Resilience Council events focus on the importance of resilience, recovery and prosperity. The RC brings together the public and private sectors to share knowledge and best practices. Past IIPT Award winners are individuals from across the globe who have been instrumental in showcasing to the world that tourism, as a worldwide social and cultural phenomenon, is one of humanity’s truly global activities that brings prosperity to all countries which, in turn, fosters peace.
IIPT Champions in Challenge Awards are given to one individual and two businesses who have been in operation more than 3 years and who can demonstrate their activities specific to the award category. These awards are presented at the RC annual summit in November to celebrate unique individuals or initiatives that engage in sustainable travel practices or programs that ensure resiliency, peace and prosperity. The nominees must have exhibited across their private or public lives an ethos of standing ahead or in front of others at a time of exceptional challenge, not for activities which are business as usual. Through their actions they have built or engendered long term resiliency. The Awards are:
Change Maker in Tourism Award
This award will be presented to the individual or entrepreneur who has made a significant change towards tourism either from within or outside the travel sector. An individual who has gone beyond the call of duty and spear-headed a new idea, initiative or product that brings change to the tourism industry on a global level through community-based efforts that highlight cultural diversity and promote harmony.
This award looks for a business, region or NGO that celebrates their cultural diversity through a proven approach that incorporates human interaction as an asset that promotes relationships nurtured and promoted through sustainable tourism that is environmentally sound. The business must exhibit over a period of at least three years that the strategy is producing exponential growth or practices that invest heavily in their people or those of the community.
