IIPT Credo presented to the Captain and Crew of a Wooden Tall Ship, Windeward Bound, Australia

The International Institute for Peace through Tourism, congratulated and welcomed Captain Sarah Parry and the Crew of Windeward Bound, a Wooden Tall Ship, which sailed into Sydney from Tasmania as part of a 6 months voyage along the East Coast of Australia. A return distance of more than 2,822 Nautical Miles (5226 kilometres).

Gail Parsonage, President of IIPT Australia presented Captain Parry with a framed certificate of welcome and the IIPT Credo of the Peaceful Traveller and individual crew members were presented a copy of the Credo along with “IIPT Travel Promotes Peace” lapel pins.

Windeward Bound is an award winning Sail Training Brigantine which gives Young People the opportunity for youth development and leadership skills and sail training and maritime career training opportunities. Also to experience an exceptional adventure.

Windeward Bound Trust and Rotary International have joined together to continue their special leadership development programs for youth and to celebrate more than 100 years of Rotary in Australia. The Windeward Bound training ship’s mast is also the tallest Rotary Peace Pole in the world (24m/ 78 feet) high. The Peace Pole is an internationally recognised symbol with the message “May Peace Prevail” in multiple languages. This ship now also carries the IIPT Credo of the Peaceful Traveller.

 

The ship and crew which sailed its first leg from Hobart (Tasmania) to Sydney a distance of 628 Nautical Miles (1163 km) consisted of 15 “Youth Crew” ages from 15 to 18 years with participants from 4 states in Australia and 2 International Exchange Students from Rome. The “Sail Training Crew” range from 19 – 35 years and came from Australia, Sweden, Belgium and USA and are training for Sailing Skills, adventure and Tall Ships experience.
