Dr. Tomoko Shimoyama, University of Toyo

Dr. Tomoko Shimoyama is special envoy of International Institute For Peace Through Tourism (IIPT) in Japan. 

Dr.Shimoyama is historian, researcher in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, Iranologist.     

She completed Ph.D programme in Middle Eastern Studies and Iranology at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and a Post Doctor Fellow at the University of Tokyo (Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology), and was a former lecture in socio-religious history of the Medieval Islam and Iran at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, as well as a former faculty staff of Sophia University, Japan (Institute of Asian, African and Middle Eastern Studies: the Group of Study on Religious Dialogue and Peace Building).

She is former editorial staff of the academic periodical The World of Islam (in Japanese, Association for Islamic Studies in Japan).

She received Ph.D in Islamic and Iranian history at Tarbiat Modares University, Iran and is a faculty staff of Toyo University, Japan (Asian Cultures Research Institute) at present.

She served a member of various scientific committees of international conferences on Middle Eastern and Islamic Cultural History and is also working on the history of the cultural exchange around the Silk Roads and Nowruz as well as peace tourism including Hiroshima.
